Pre-tribulation, Mid-tribulation, or Post-Tribulation Rapture

Rapture.JPG

Pre-tribulation view

Where Can the Church Be Found in the Book of Revelation?

That’s a very good question because it relates to our expectation of the imminent Rapture of the Church — meaning all who are saved and collectively called the Bride of Christ. I offer three clues regarding the absence of the Church during the Tribulation.

First, the book opens stating that it is the “Revelation of Jesus Christ which God gave Him to show to His bond-servants” (1:1). In verse 4 John addresses seven churches in Asia, and of course chapters 2 and 3 consist of Jesus’ dictated letters.

Jesus’ messages to those individual churches echo down the centuries to us today. The churches themselves are representative of different types of churches and offer a prophetic overview of the Church age as it has progressed over the past 2000 years.

Then, at the beginning of chapter 4, the scene shifts. John, who was on the island of Patmos, heard a voice that called (or raptured) him up to heaven. He was “immediately” transported in the Spirit to the throne room of God. The next 14 chapters describe the Tribulation period in great detail, but there is no mention of the Church — by name or by description.

Why is the Church absent throughout John’s record of God’s wrath being poured out upon the earth? Because God has promised the Church that she will be delivered from the wrath to come (1 Thess. 1:105:9Rom. 5:9Eph. 5:6Col. 3:4Rev. 3:10).

Some have mischaracterized the 21 judgments unleashed by God on the earth during the Tribulation as the wrath of Satan, but this is not biblical. Paul revealed that “the wrath of God will fall upon the sons of disobedience” — meaning those who have rejected Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:6). Our beloved Bridegroom has no intention of beating up His Bride just before gathering her to His father’s house. Instead, “having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him” (Romans 5:9).

A second clue pointing to the absence of the Church during the Tribulation is found in the wording of the messages to the seven churches. To every one Jesus says, “He who has an ear to hear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” Later, when John is describing the dragon on the earth (False Prophet) and the beast from the sea (Antichrist), he merely says, “If anyone has an ear, let him hear” (13:9). That warning is not offered to the Church because it will not be present.

Revelation clearly communicates that God’s wrath will be poured out on a rebellious and unrepentant world. Those who have rejected Christ will recognize that fact, for John records that they will say to the mountains, “Fall on us and hide us from the presence of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb” (6:15-16).

The third clue is the reappearance of the Church in Revelation 19 — when John records the marriage of the Lamb and His Bride. Following the marriage supper of the Lamb, the Bride of Christ will then follow Jesus as He returns — this time in glory — to defeat Satan and reign upon the earth.

The bottom line is that the Church — including all of us who are collectively called the Bride of Christ — does not need to fear God’s wrath. Soon and very soon, the Heavenly Father will tell our Bridegroom, “Go, and get your Bride!” https://christinprophecyblog.org/2022/03/where-can-the-church-be-found-in-the-book-of-revelation/

1 Thes 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

1 Thes 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Eph 5:6 Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Col 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory

Rev 3:10 ‘Because you have kept the word of My perseverance, I also will keep you from the hour of testing, that hour which is about to come upon the whole world, to test those who dwell on the earth.

Heading 2

History of the Pre-Tribulation teaching

Introduction
As more and more people embrace the doctrines of the Reformation, many of these people fail to discard the errors that some of the Reformers were unable to discover in their limited lifetimes.

Many of the Covenant  Calvinists embrace the Roman Catholic ideology of amillennialism. Furthermore, many within this tradition, and even within the premillennial family, assert that the doctrine of a pre-trib rapture did not develop until the 1800s. Such statements are terribly inaccurate.

I agree with Dr. Tim Lahaye, Dr. Richard Mayhue, and Dr. Wayne Brindle when they state: "The timing of the rapture is not a cardinal doctrine that should divide God's people, but those who interpret the Bible literally find many strong reasons to believe that the rapture will be pre-tribulational" (The Popular Encyclopedia of Bible Prophecy, 289).

No matter whether one believes in a pre-trib rapture or not, there are historical statements that verify that people have indeed believed this teaching before the 1800s.

The Early Church Fathers Were Premillennial

It is clear that the early church immediately following the apostles held to a premillennial view of Christ's coming to earth. These theologians embraced two key truths concerning Christ's return to earth. The idea of an any moment return and a coming of Christ to rule as the political and spiritual king over the world were advocated by many of the earliest theologians. Here is a partial list of some of the theologians who embraced the doctrine of imminency and/or the future kingdom rule of Christ:

Papias (60-130)

Clement of Rome (90-100)

The Sherpherd of Hermas (96-150)

Ignatius of Antioch (98-117)

Barnabas (100)

The Didache (100-160)

Justin Martyr (110-165)

The Epistle of Barnabas (117-138)

Irenaeus (120-202)

Tertullian (145-220)

Hippolytus (185-236)

Cyprian (200-250)

Lactantius (260-330)

From these men we see the doctrine of Christ's soon return within a premillennial framework. The doctrine permeated the early church. Some of these men even had direct contact with the apostles.

Two Pretribulational References in the Early Church

1. The Shepherd of Hermas (95-150)

The Shepherd of Hermas was written between 96-150 AD. This document provides a statement that resembles a teaching of a pre-trib rapture doctrine. Though it is not exactly as found in modern day scholarly pretribulational writings, it still shows that an idea existed in some degree that God's people could escape the future tribulation that was to come on the whole earth. The text reads:

"You have escaped from the great tribulation on account of your faith, and because you did not doubt in the presence of such a beast. Go, therefore, and tell the elect of the Lord His mighty deeds, and say to them that this beast is a type of the great tribulation that is coming. If then ye prepare yourselves, and repent with all your heart, and turn to the Lord, it will be possible for you to escape it, if your heart be pure and spotless, and ye spend the rest of the days of your life serving the Lord blamelessly."

This is not a systematic teaching, nor does it answer all of the questions that one may have. But it does give a reference to the possibility that God's people can escape the great tribulation.

2. Victorinus ( Well known by 270 and died in 303 A.D.)

Victorinus wrote a commentary on the book of Revelation. In one place he made an interesting statement that reflects his idea that the church would be removed prior to the tribulation. Of course his ideas were not systematic, and some will argue that he contradicts himself in other places, which may very well be true. But even with such an admission it still serves us well to see that early in the church history someone taught in some sense that God's church could escape the tribulation period by being removed from the earth. His commentary notes in Revelation 6:14 indicate a pre-trib reference of some sort:

"And the heaven withdrew as a scroll that is rolled up." For the heaven to be rolled away, that is, that the Church shall be taken away. "And every mountain and the islands removed from their places intimate that in the last persecution all men departed from their places; that is, that the good will be removed, seeking to avoid persecution.

This reference gives light into a developing idea in the earliest periods of the church. There was an idea that God's people could be spared the terrible time of wrath thatGod would pour out on the earth by removing the saints. The saint's departure from the earth would occur so they would not undergo the terible wrath at the beginning of the judgments of God upon the sinful unbelieving world.

Summary:

Three Clear Summary Points from the Early Church Fathers' Teachings

  • These early church fathers expected Christ to physically return to earth followed by a 1000 year kingdom rule on earth.

  • By many of the writings we can see they believed in the possibility of an any moment return of Christ with some statements that resemble a pre-trib view point.

  • Even though the early church was under heavy persecution these teachers believed there would still come a distinct time of great tribulation in the future.

Two Pretribulational Teachings in the Medieval Church

1. Ephraem of Nisibis (306-373)

Ephraem wrote an important sermon "On the Last Times, the Antichrist and the End of the World." As a prominent theologian and prolific writer of the Eastern Byzantine church, he advocated for a pretribulational rapture position for the church. Dr. Grant Jeffrey has noted that he had a profound love for the Scriptures. Below is a selected quote that concerns the escape of God's people from the horrible tribulation. He stated:

"We ought to understand thoroughly therefore, my brothers, what is imminent or overhanging.  Already there have been hunger and plagues, violent movements of nations and signs, which have been predicted by the Lord, they have already been fulfilled, and there is not other which remains, except the advent of the wicked one in the completion of hte Roman kingdom.  Why therefore are we ovvupied with wordly business, and why is our mind held fixed on the lusts of the world or the anxieties of the ages?  Why therefore do we not reject every care of earthly actions and prepare ourselves for the meeting of the Lord Christ, so that He may draw us from the confusion, which overwhelms the world? Believe you me, dearest brothers, because the coming of the Lord is nigh, believe you me, because the end of the world is at hand, believe me, because it it the very last time.  Or do you not believe unless you see it with your eyes?  See to it that this sentence be not fulfilled among you of the prophet who declares:  "Woe to those who desire to see the Day of the Lord!"  Because all saints and the Elect of the Lord are gathered together before the tribulation which is to about to come and are taken to the Lord, in order that they may not see at any time the confusion which overwhelms the world because of our sins.  And so brothers, most dear to me, it is the eleventh hour, and the end of this world comes to the harvest, and angels, armed and prepared, hold sickles in their earth exists with blind infidelity, arriving at its downfall early.  Commotions are brought forth, wars of diverse peoples and battles and invasions of the barbarians threaten, and our regions shall be desolated, and we neither become very much afraid of the report nor ofthe appearance, in order that we may at least do penance; because they hurl fear at us, and we do not wish to be changed although we at least stand in need of penance for our actions!

Notice that there is a clear teaching on the rapture of the saints before the terrible tribulation period. This theologian admonishes the people not to desire to see the Day of the Lord? Why? Because in his mind to see the day of the Lord means a person is not a believer. The believers will be snatched away and taken to the Lord before this time period begins. Look closely at what he says again:

"See to it that this sentence be not fulfilled among you of the prophet who declares:  "Woe to those who desire to see the Day of the Lord!"  Because all saints and the Elect of the Lord are gathered together before the tribulation which is to about to come and are taken to the Lord, in order that they may not see at any time the confusion which overwhelms the world because of our sins."

Scholars Dr. Ice and James Stitzinger provide some other insights as to what this theologian taught concerning the end times. In many respects this theologian taught many truths that are common among the Dispensational system of interpretation today. They note that Ephreum

"develops an elaborate biblical eschatology, including a distinction between the rapture and the second coming of Christ. It describes the imminent rapture, followed by a three-and-half-year-long Great Tribulation under the rule of Antichrist, followed by the coming of Christ, the defeat of the Antichrist, and the eternal state. His view includes a parenthesis between the fulfillment of Daniel's sixty-ninth and seventieth weeks (Daniel 9:24-27)."

Keep in mind that this reference is 1500 years before the time that many critics of the pre-trib view claim this doctrine developed. Many falsely advocate that the idea of a pre-trib rapture view developed in 1800s through J.N. Darby or through some sects and mystics. Such a view does not hold water, though it is popular in many circles.

For example, I once visited a Reformed Baptist Church in Greenville. It was a question and answer time session hosted by two pastors connected to the fellowship. Students from North Greenville College, Furman Univeristy, and other colleges, universities, and churches were present. A sincere man raised his hand and asked this question: "Why will no one teach on the book of Revelation and prophecy anymore? Can you give me a biblical answer to the issue of Bible prophecy." I thought it was a great question and I was interested to hear a biblically based answer from Scripture by the two pastors. Sadly, what was given in reply caused several of us in the room to have a serious concern for the pastors answering questions. Instead of providing an answer to the student's question the two pastors took the next ten minutes to simply attack the idea of a pre-trib rapture view. These two men did not take the time to provide for a biblical defense of their view. All they did was attack the pre-trib view as a modern invention that developed in the 1800s. After they attacked such a view, with little to no defense of their own view, I called the men on the carpet for a failure to study history and to defend their own view biblically. I asked them about several men who held this view before the 1800s, such as with Ephraem and others I'll discuss below. They had no reply to the information I gave to them.

2. Brother Dolcino (d. 1307)

One scholar has found a quote that relates to the teachings and disciples of Dolcino. Dolcino and his followers held to some form of rapture view whereby people were translated to heaven before the time of judgment on the Antichrist. The teaching is as follows:

"Again, [Dolcino believed and preached and taught] that within those three years Dolcino himself and his followers will preach the coming of the Antichrist. And that the Antichrist was coming into this world within the bounds of the said three and a half years; and after he had come, then he [Dolcino] and his followers would be transferred into Paradise, in which are Enoch and Elijah. And in this way they will be preserved unharmed from the persecution of Antichrist. And that then Enoch and Elijah themselves would descend on the earth for the purpose of preaching [against] Antichrist. Then they would be killed by him or by his servants, and thus Antichrist would reign for a long time. But when the Antichrist is dead, Dolcino himself, who then would be the holy pope, and his preserved followers, will descend on the earth, and will preach the right faith of Christ to all, and will convert those who will be living then to the true faith of Jesus Christ"

Teachers and Theologians after the Protestant Reformation Who Believed in a Pre-trib Rapture

At the time of the Protestant Reformation a major shift in how one interpreted the Bible caused the church to adjust in her views on the end times. Predominately under the Roman Catholic Church the Bible was interpreted allegorically. Scripture dealing with end times, prophetic texts, for the most part suffered from the hands of those who would not take the text literally. However, as the Reformation grew and as people began to return to a literal interpretation of the Bible the more people shifted to see that Christ was going to come back to earth to rule and reign. Many of the Puritans and Pilgrims, the 2nd generation of the Reformation movement, adopted the idea that not only was Christ going to reign on the earth but he would also translate his church saints before the awful time of his outpouring of wrath. Several of these scholars in some form or another held to a pre-tribulational rapture position.

1. Joseph Mede (1627): Clavis Apocalyptica

Some believe that he in this work made a distinction between the rapture of the saints in contrast to the second of Christ to earth.

2. Increase Mather (1639-1723)

Increase Mather was a pastor, scholar, and was the first President of Harvard College. Paul Boyer has noted that this Puritan scholar proved "that the saints would be caught up into the air beforehand, thereby escaping the final conflagration." This teaching from Mather was an early formulation of the rapture doctrine it seems.

3. Peter Jurieu (1687)

Peter Jurie in his book "Approaching Deliverance of the Church " (1687) taught that Christ would come in the air to rapture the saints and return to heaven before the battle of Armageddon. He spoke of a secret Rapture prior to His coming in glory and judgment at Armageddon.

4. John Gill (1748)

Dr. John Gill was one of the most brilliant scholars of his day. This Calvinist Baptist theologian wrote a full commentary set on the Bible in 1748. In this commentary he made a statement in his notes on 1 Thessalonians 4 that supported a time difference between the rapture of the saints and the coming of Christ to earth. He said:

....here Christ will stop and will be visible to all, and as easily discerned by all, good and bad, as the body of the sun at noon-day; as yet He will not descend on earth, because it is not fit to receive Him; but when that and its works are burnt up, and it is purged and purified by fire, and become a new earth, He'll descend upon it, and dwell with his saints in it: and this suggests another reason why He'll stay in the air, and His saints shall meet Him there, and whom He'll take up with Him into the third heaven, till the general conflagration and burning of the world is over, and to preserve them from it....

5. Morgan Edwards (1742-1744) the Founder of Brown University

Edwards was a prominent Baptist Leader in his day. When he came to America he was recommended to a pastoral role by the famous John Gill. He founded the first Baptist College in the colonies. This college later became known as Brown University, a well known Ivy League University of our times. Edwards taught that Christ would return for his church saints 3.5 years before he returned to establish the Kingdom of Christ on earth, the 1000 year reign of Christ. He specifically said:

"The distance between the first and second resurrection will be somewhat more than a thousand years. I say, somewhat more--, because the dead saints will be raised, and the living changed at Christ's 'appearing in the air' (1 Thess. 4:17); and this will be about three years and a half before the millennium, as we shall see hereafter: but will he and they abide in the air all that time? No: they will ascend to paradise, or to some one of those many 'mansions in the Father's house' (John 14:2)."

Summary: Orthodox Believers of History Have Believed in a Pretribulational View

As stated earlier in this link, the timing of the rapture debate should not be classed as an "A" level truth. The fact of Christ's coming is a larger issue. Then next in the scale would be if Christ will rule on the earth as King over all the earth. Those two issues are higher on the scale than the exact time of his rapture of the church age saints. To divide a fellowship or to break fellowship with a body over this one doctrine shows a sign of immaturity.

However, Christians must recognize that those who paint pre-tribulationists as fanatics, fringe movement Christians, or as heretics who have emabraced some strange and novel idea never heard of until the 1800's have done a disfavor to the entire body of Christ. Whatever position one holds to in this area, everyone should at the least admit good, sound, and orthodox believers have taught this view before the 1800's time period. And many today continue to see this as a valid position to hold from the Scriptures when properly interpreted in a plain, consistent, and normal manner with the words given their ordinary usage in historical context.

Mid-Tribulation View

God's timing is perfect and the rapture of the saints will only happen according to God's perfect plan. The Two Witnesses will minster for 1260 days (3 ½ years) in direct opposition to the Antichrist and his reign. Consider this article, as it shows the correlation of the Bible verses involved, based upon a clear 7 year prophetic time period that is divided into two segments, the first half with “Christians present” and second half with “God's wrath” for those left after the rapture.

First, let it be noted that there is one week of years left of the 70 prophetic weeks, as 69 weeks have passed. See the   70 Weeks Chart.

There are important numbers and terminology to be familiar with.

1 week in Daniel = 7 years (two - 3 1/2 year periods).
A time, times and half a time breaks down as this: time (1 year), times (2 years) and 1/2 of time (½ a year)= 3 ½ years (found in   Daniel 7:25,12:7Revelation 12:14).
42 months = 1260 days = 3 ½ years = a time, times and half a time.

Please carefully read the following section of Scripture.

  • Revelation 11:1-3 Then I was given a reed like a measuring rod. And the angel stood, saying, "Rise and measure the temple of God, the altar, and those who worship there. 2 But leave out the court which is outside the temple, and do not measure it, for it has been given to the Gentiles. And they will tread the holy city underfoot for forty-two months. 3 And I will give power to My two witnesses, and they will prophesy one thousand two hundred and sixty days (1260 days), clothed in sackcloth."

These Two Witnesses/Two Prophets will have the witness and the testimony of Jesus Christ. They will prophesy and share the Gospel for 1260 days. Many just want to talk about "who" the Two Witnesses are, but no matter "who" they are (Enoch, Moses, Elijah or two others) the point is, they will prophesy and be the Witnesses of Jesus Christ for the first 3 ½ years. We know they will be killed by the Antichrist (Revelation 11:7-11), therefore, we know their terms overlap beyond the shadow of a doubt, and as we will show, are almost concurrent except for 3 ½ days. While the Antichrist will represent the devil, the Two Witnesses will represent the Lord, being seen and heard to the distress of the kingdom of darkness and all on their side (Revelation 11:3-7,10).

Many people want to make the Two Witnesses "Judaic (without being Christian)" and not of the kingdom of Jesus Christ but “Jesus Christ is Judaic” and “the true fulfillment of all Old Testament Scripture.” These two “anointed ones” will stand for the real Jesus Christ, the true Messiah, against all falsehood - against the beastly kingdom and all its blasphemy. How do we know their ministry is the first 3½ years? One reason is because “only wrath is being poured out for the last 3½ years” and when the Two Witnesses are killed at the end of the first 3½ years; the Lord raises them from the dead and tells them "Come up here" - they will not be the only ones rising up - but it is the "gathering, catching up" of all believers! This will be discussed in greater detail later.

Let us consider what else takes place for 42 months, 3 ½ years.

  • Revelation 13:1-5 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?" 5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.

  • Revelation 13:6-10 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation. 8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, (those) whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10 He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

Why would the saints need faith and patience, if they are not still on the earth, enduring this 42 month- time of evil global authority?

Satan and his beast (Antichrist) will be given a certain amount of authority for 42 months (1260 days/3½ years). Some want to say "the saints" spoken of here are Jews or people saved after the rapture, which they think happens at the beginning of the seven years. That same concept teaches that the Holy Spirit leaves at the rapture, and all Christians know what without the Holy Spirit, there is no salvation. They cannot have it both ways. In reality, the Bible never says the saints left. "It was granted to him to make war with the saints and overcome them." This is not something any of us want to hear. But it is... what will happen. Can your faith stand if you have to endure this time? If you know what to expect and that you only have to endure it for a season, it will help.

Next major Scriptures to consider; please notice how Daniel correlates with the book of Revelation.

  • Daniel 7:23-25 Thus he said: 'The fourth beast shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be different from all other kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, trample it and break it in pieces. 24 The ten horns are ten kings, who shall arise from this kingdom. And another shall rise after them; he shall be different from the first ones, and shall subdue three kings. 25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, shall persecute the saints of the Most High, and shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time.

Daniel recorded: “Shall persecute the saints of the Most High... Then the saints shall be given into his hand for a time and times and half a time." Remember, "a time, times and half a time" means a year, two years and a half a year which totals 3½ years (1260 days/42 months).

Some try to say the word “saints” here means "Jews" because Daniel wrote it. Well, why is it that John writes the same thing? Its because "saints" means what it has always meant, “the true people of God”... Moses, Ruth, Peter & Paul were all saints... Christians today are saints. The point is: God's people, His saints, will be persecuted by this evil one and be given into his hand for a time, times and half a time (3 ½ years).

This has to be the first 3 ½ years, otherwise the saints would be around to endure God's wrath along with the wicked as there are 7 trumpets of judgment and 7 bowls of wrath that will come down on the evil ones who worshiped the beast, his image and took his mark. And God's wrath is for the wicked, not His children.

Please consider this next section of verses and think about what John wrote in Revelation 13:1-10 (the second section of Scripture in this article).

  • Daniel 12:4-7 "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase." 5 Then I, Daniel, looked; and there stood two others, one on this riverbank and the other on that riverbank. 6 And one said to the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, "How long shall the fulfillment of these wonders be?" 7 Then I heard the man clothed in linen, who was above the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand to heaven, and swore by Him who lives forever, that it shall be for a time, times, and half a time; and when the power of the holy people has been completely shattered, all these things shall be finished.

It shall be for 3 ½ years until "the power of the holy people has been completely shattered."

These “holy people” are “the people of God/saints.” Once again, it must be stated, that many people think this is a reference to the Jews alone. But that is not what is said or meant. It correlates with “the people of God/saints (saved/born-again Jews and saved/born-again Gentiles)” being alive while the world has been given over to Satan for 3 ½ years (a time, times and ½ a time), the first half of the last week of years (7 years) of this age.

There will be persecution of the saints in a world of blasphemy and eventually, the power of the holy people, the saints, will be completely shattered. What did the man clothed in linen, mean when He said to Daniel, “all these things shall be finished”? He meant that once things come to that point, the Two Witnesses will have finished their testimony, been killed and raised from the dead, the rapture will happen, the 144,000 Jews (12,000 from each tribe) will be sealed for protection and the only thing left is “wrath.” Vengeance really does belong to the Lord and those who did evil to God's people and took sides with the devil against God, will bring the judgment and wrath of God down upon their own selves.

To refute the voices of erroneous theology: If the saints were “raptured up” at the beginning of the 7 years, then how could any of these things be? The Bible does not speak of more than one rapture/gathering of the Saints. The people that are left after the rapture, are the ones who followed and worshiped the beast and took his mark. The Bible is clear on their demise of wrath and eternal doom (Revelation 14:9-11). And the Bible is clear that God's wrath is for the wicked, not His children; and after the rapture, His wrath is poured out on man and earth by way of the 7 trumpets and 7 bowls of wrath. Jesus said "I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world" (John 9:4-5). Christians continue the work of the Lord today, but once the Christians are gone after the rapture, the Light will also be gone and the day of salvation will be over. After the rapture, it shows the mankind that is left, only blaspheming the Lord and not repenting and shows the same happening in Revelation 9:20-21 and Revelation 16:8-9,11,21.

There will be 3½ years of tribulation in which the devil, his Antichrist and followers will be rebelling against God and directly opposed to the Two Witnesses and Christians. When the Two Witnesses are killed, the wicked will proclaim “peace and safety” (1 Thessalonians 5:3), but it will be short-lived, for the rapture will come! Afterward, there will follow 3½ years of judgment/wrath concluding with Armageddon and the grapes of wrath (Revelation 14:17,16:16,19:17-21). After the end of this age, it really will be the end of the ruler-ship of sin and the devil deceiving mankind. The devil will be bound for 1000 years and the 144,000 from each tribe of Israel that were sealed, will be the remnant-start of people in the Millennium, which will be directly under the rule of Jesus Christ Himself and those He will have helping Him (Revelation 20:4). After the Millennium, the evil old serpent will be loosed for a short season to “deceive the nations” and will conclude with the battle of Gog and Magog. And finally, the old earth and universe (physical heavens) will burn and melt as told by Peter (2 Peter 3:10), and there will be the Great White Throne of Judgment whereupon evil will be put away forever. The Lord will make a new heavens (physical) and a new earth with the holy city of heaven, the New Jerusalem, coming to rest on the new earth (Revelation 21:1-27).

Post-Tribulation Rapture View

19 Proofs we are Living in the End Time

We are asked quite often why we believe in a post-tribulation rapture. The 19 points below explain our position.

  1. Matthew 24:29-31 clearly says that the rapture happens after the Great Tribulation. Some will say that “the elect” in this passage applies to the Jews, but there is no scriptural proof of this. Furthermore, a study of the word elect or election in the New Testament reveals that every time the word is used, it refers to the church, not to the Jews. The most poignant case is Romans 11:7. Even in Matthew 24, Jesus uses the word elect (verses 22 and 24) to refer to the church, not the unbelieving Jewish people. Further support of verse 31 as the rapture of the church are the verses that follow it, which describe, among other things, two being in the field – one is taken, the other left. This is the rapture.

  2. II Thessalonians 2:1-4 clearly says that the Antichrist will be revealed before the rapture. Verse 6 clearly says that what is holding back the revelation of the Antichrist is that it’s not time yet.

  3. Revelation 20:4-6 says that saints who were killed during the mark of the beast period – the Great Tribulation – would be part of the “first” resurrection. This conflicts with the pre-tribulation rapture theory, which states that the first resurrection happens before the mark of the beast. The pre-tribulation rapture theory converts the resurrection in Revelation 20:4-6 into the “second” resurrection, while John takes great pains to tell us that it’s the first. In an attempt to avoid scripture breakdown, those who hold to a pre-tribulation rapture have said in the past, “There have been many first resurrections.” This of course is absurd and wholly unnecessary. Also, it has been said that a rapture and a resurrection are not the same. But the rapture is when the dead in Christ rise. This is the very definition of resurrection.

  4. Matthew 13’s parable of the wheat and the tares (verses 24-30 and 36-43) describes the harvest of the wicked and good as one simultaneous event, not two events separated by seven years. Those who say it does allow for a seven year gap cannot explain away verse 30, which says, “Gather ye together first the tares (the wicked).” According to Jesus, the wheat is not harvested before the tares.

  5. I Thessalonians 4:15-18 talks about the rapture of those who are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord. The Greek word for remain is “perileipo.” According to Strong’s, it can also be translated as “survive.” This is not surprising, because the word “peril” is at the root of “perileipo.” Remain means “remain as in surviving the peril.” This does not seem to support a pre-tribulation rapture theory.

  6. In Revelation 13:7, the Antichrist makes war against saints who are from all kindreds, tongues, and nations. That does not describe Jews-only.

  7. I Corinthians 15:51-54 speaks of the last trump. Revelation 11:15-19 speaks of the last trump. The description of what happens at the last trump in each of these passages is the same.

  8. Every prophecy student would agree that the rapture is when the Lord comes as a thief. Many warnings are given of this in the New Testament, among them Matthew 24:42-43, I Thessalonians 5:2, and II Peter 3:10. One such warning is given in Revelation 16:15. It’s the final, last minute warning: “Behold, I come as a thief.” But notice the context. The following verse is the Battle of Armageddon – the 7th Vial. Why would God be issuing a warning that He will be coming as a thief right up until Armageddon, if He came as a thief seven years prior to this? The answer is, of course, He wouldn’t.

  9. It has been theorized that when the Lord comes as a thief in the night, this speaks of a Secret Coming. I Thessalonians 5:1-8 clearly teaches, however, that the church will know when He is coming. The Church will not be taken by surprise. Only the unsaved will be taken by surprise. It is hard to understand where the Secret Coming theory was even conceived.

  10. It has been commonly taught that the Great Tribulation is the Wrath of God. The Bible teaches the opposite. When the Great Tribulation ends, this is when the God’s Wrath begins. Proof: One of the events that takes place during the Wrath of God is that the sun, moon, and stars will go dark. It is described in the 6th Seal – Revelation 6:12-17. It specifically calls it the Wrath of God. The sun, moon, and stars going dark is also spoken of by Jesus in Matthew 24:29, only Jesus gives us the timing. He says that it occurs after the Great Tribulation. According to Jesus, the Wrath of God is not the Great Tribulation, but rather, the Wrath of God occurs after the Great Tribulation. To operate under the wrong assumption that God’s Wrath is the Tribulation results in nothing but confusion.

  11. Revelation 12:7-17 describes the events of the Great Tribulation. This can be proven by comparing it with all other passages in the Bible that speak of a three and one-half year period of time (1,260 days, 42 months, “time, times, and half a time”). Verse 12 calls the Great Tribulation the time of Satan’s Wrath. After all, God does not persecute His own people. Satan does.

  12. I Thessalonians 5:9 teaches that God’s people are not appointed unto God’s Wrath. The post-tribulation rapture teaching agrees with this. As stated above, the Great Tribulation is not God’s Wrath. It is Satan’s Wrath. History records that 11 of the 12 apostles were martyred. Saints today are not immune from the trials, temptations, and persecutions of Satan. It has been said that God wouldn’t beat up His bride before marrying her. That is certainly true. He wouldn’t. But Satan would.

  13. The pre-tribulation rapture theory states that there is one Second Coming, but that it happens in two phases. (We find this premise to be a stretch.) It is said that the first phase is for His church. It’s the rapture, also called the Secret Coming. The second phase is Matthew 24:31’s gathering of the Jews, which they call the Glorious Appearing. It occurs at the end of the final seven years. There are some scriptures which are in conflict with this theory. Here are two: Titus 2:11-13 instructs the church to live righteously in this present world right up until, not the Secret Coming, but the Glorious Appearing. I Peter 1:5-7 teaches that trials and temptations will continue for the church all the way up until, not the Secret Coming, but the Glorious Appearing.

  14. In order to know the timing of the rapture, you must of course understand how the book of Revelation is structured. The pre-tribulation rapture theory is based on the assumption that Revelation was written in a chronological sequence. This means, it is assumed that the events of the endtime are recorded in Revelation in the order they will happen: First the Seals, then the Trumpets, and then the Vials. If it can be proven, however, that Revelation was not written in chronological order, then the house of cards falls. And it does. A simple comparison between the 7th Trumpet (Chapter 11) and 7th Vial (Chapter 16) reveals that they are the same, singular event. Add to this comparison the 6th Seal (Chapter 6), Ezekiel 38:18-22, and Matthew 24:29 and we find that all five of these passages describe the exact same event. The 6th Seal, 7th Trumpet, and 7th Vial is one event that is described in Chapter 6, again in Chapter 11, and again in 16. Obviously, Revelation is not in the assumed chronological sequence. This is one of several proofs that Revelation is not sequential from front to back. And with this understanding, the underlying assumption upon which the pre-tribulation rapture is based collapses.

  15. It has been commonly accepted that in order for the Antichrist to rise to power, the Holy Ghost must be removed from the earth. The basis for this conclusion is II Thessalonians 2:7. There are a few problems with the theory. First and foremost, we already demonstrated above that the first 4 verses of this same chapter mandate the revelation of the Antichrist before the rapture, not after. Paul would not reverse his position so radically three verses later. Second, it is assumed that the “he” in verse 7 is the Holy Ghost, but there is no proof whatsoever for this. And finally, if there is no Holy Ghost on earth during the Great Tribulation, then what power is being used by the Two Witnesses to perform all of their miracles. Revelation 13:5-7 and other passages describe people on earth during the Tribulation who are born again. How can a person be born again without the Holy Ghost? The pre-tribulation rapture theory states that those who are left behind will have a second chance at salvation. The parable of the ten virgins (Matthew 25:1-13) teaches that He comes once and there is no second chance to make the rapture.

  16. Some have taught a mid-tribulation rapture. However, this position is impossible since it assumes that the Tribulation lasts for seven years. Yet, there is not one scripture in the entire Bible that describes a seven-year tribulation. Every description of the Tribulation in the Bible teaches that it lasts for three and one-half years. Daniel 7:25, 12:1-7, Revelation 11:3-12, 12:6, 12:7-12, 12:13-17, and 13:5-7. The misunderstanding about a seven-year tribulation comes from Daniel 9:27, which speaks of a covenant that will be confirmed for seven years. This verse teaches that the abomination of desolation will occur halfway through the seven-year period. Jesus said that the abomination of desolation would mark the beginning of the great tribulation (Matthew 24:15-21). From this we know that the great tribulation only lasts for three and one-half years.

  17. Many have taught that the rapture is described in Revelation 4:1. John is told to “Come up hither, and I will show thee things which must be hereafter.” This passage has nothing to do with the rapture. It simply means what it says: “I will show you things that must be hereafter.” This is simply the point in John’s writings when he begins recording the events of the future.
In Revelation 1:19, John is told to write three things: “Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter.” Chapters 1-3 contain “…the things thou hast seen, and the things which are.” Chapter 4, verse 1 simply moves into “… the things which shall be hereafter.”

  18. Revelation 3:10 is cited by some as proof of a pre-tribulation rapture. The passage says: “Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.” Some contend that as God protected the church of Philadelphia from temptations that would come upon the world, so shall He protect us from the Great Tribulation. This passage was simply a message to the Philadelphian church that John had oversight of after he was released from the exile on the Isle of Patmos. A similar message was written to the church of Smyrna in Revelation 2:10: “…the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days…” Does this mean that the great tribulation will only last ten days? Of course not. Again, this is a message to one of the seven churches of Asia Minor, which John would overseer after his release from exile.

  19. Matthew 24:37, “But as the days of Noah were so shall the coming of the Son of man be,” is offered as proof of a pre-tribulation rapture by some. It is explained that God helped His chosen escape the great tribulation of the flood, and so likewise shall He rapture His church from the coming tribulation. However, it should be noticed that God protected Noah through the flood. He did not bring Noah into heaven to avoid the flood. Furthermore, the coming of the Son of man to which the days of Noah were being compared was the coming just described in verses 29-31, which the passage specifically says will take place immediately after the tribulation.   https://www.endtime.com/blog/why-we-believe-in-a-post-tribulation-rapture/

Closing thoughts and analysis

I have provided three views of the timing of the Rapture, Pre-Tribulation View, Mid- Tribulation View, Post- Tribulation View, and the History of the Pre- Tribulation View. As I looked through the historical Pre-Tribulation views and messages provided i noticed that most of our early forefathers believed in a rapture taking place before any of the wrath of God is poured out, which I agree with.

I found a great teaching  by  John MacArthur on the eminent return of Jesus Christ. http://www.gty.org/library/articles/A368

It is important that we as brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus be informed on these views of the Rapture but not allow it to be a place of division, as no matter whether it is Pre-Mid or Post Tribulation, we will all go up together to be with the Lord Jesus.

But here is wisdom, we are told in: Matthew 24 not to be deceived, in verses 6-8 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

All these things are happening in the world today, wars, famines, and pestilences.

Let’s be good stewards of our finances and get prepared for the worst of situations, store some food, have something to protect yourself and family and pray that the Lord come quickly.

Joseph interpreted a dream with seven years of plenty, and seven years of famine, and the Lord caused him to store up in the seven years of plenty, and he was able to provide for his family (extended) and many others in and around Egypt. Genesis 41-1-57

If no one knows the Hour Matthew 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no  man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.                                                                                                                                                                                        With that said, I     too do not know the day or hour but,  my personal opinion (guesstimate) for the timing of the Rapture would be anytime (even now) before Jesus the Lamb of God opens the sixth Seal. The Day of the Wrath of the LAMB. This is the first place the wrath of God the Lamb is noted in the book of Revelation.

1 Thessalonians 5:9   For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ

Revelation 6:15-17 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; 16 and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: 17 for the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

Be prepared, be watchful, and be fearless, God’s got this!

God Bless You
